The Ruby Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is known for its glossy medium length wavy red coat. Unlike the Blenheim which is white with red ears and patches of color, the ruby is mostly solid-colored, sometimes with small white spots on the chest or the head. As puppies the color is a deep chestnut red. As the Ruby Cavalier matures, their coat often lightens. This lightened color is where this Cavalier gets its name: Ruby Cavalier.

The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, no matter what color, is an intelligent dog breed that has a happy disposition. They are known to be loyal companions that become devoted to their families and are great with small children. Excellent dogs for first time owners, they are well behaved and are relatively easy to train due to their inquisitive nature. The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel also make wonderful emotional support animals, they were bred as lap dogs and are some of the most cuddly and loving dogs available.  Due to their loyal nature, they can suffer from separation anxiety, however with training they can be left alone for up to four hours.  If you have a full-time job, you may consider getting two dogs that can keep each other company while you are away and have someone check on in on them as needed. We do not recommend you leave them alone as puppies for extended periods of time.

The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel has a life expectancy of 9-14 years.  They usually mimic the lifestyle of their owners and can be as energetic or relaxed as they are, that being said they require at least 20 minutes of exercise a day to stay healthy. They have a low tendency to bark, snore, drool and dig but this varies on the dog. They are social creatures and require a lot of attention to stay happy.

To reduce shedding and maintain their glossy coat they should be brushed every couple days.  Baths are when needed but to clean them thoroughly, they will need to be shampooed twice due to their double layered coat. Dental hygiene is also important so it is crucial that the dog either has a tooth cleaning chew or has their teeth brushed regularly. With regular grooming, the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is a low maintenance dog to keep.
